Hello, my name is Matthew Bond. I am the founder and manager of ICON Custom Homes, LLC. In 2015 I was asked by a dear friend of mine, who was starting to build homes in southeast Texas, if I would be willing to draw up some house plans as a side hustle. Although I was working for a large engineering firm and had been drafting in multiple disciplines since 1995, it was a rocky start learning from the ground up. I worked long evenings and weekends producing plans for him while learning the basics of residential architectural design. Through his connection, I was introduced to several builders and began drawing for them as well. Seeing the potential for growth, I formed Bond Design Group (which later became Bond Design Group, LLC in 2020). It all started from the humble beginning of serving other builders and individuals with quality house plan design service.

Fast forward to 2023 and an opportunity presented itself to transition into building. A couple from California met me for breakfast at a little hole in the wall cafe, and an instant connection was made. They trusted me to build their home with only a design background in construction. What a risk! A risk that opened up a door that I had been waiting on in the years leading up to it. During the process, I learned many valuable lessons in the building trade, and I cannot thank God and the Shadle family enough for giving me that open door.

With the lessons learned in construction and the design experience accumulated over the years, I decided to create a niche company that combines design and construction together under one roof. ICON Custom Homes, LLC was formed to meet this niche.

There is a tangible advantage of keeping the whole construction process from concept to completion under one roof; it is a crucial element in transferring your vision from paper into what actually gets built. With Design+Build being the central focus of our business model, there is no one more familiar with your home than the one who worked with you directly in designing it. One of the benefits is the ability to design around a specific budget. The financial impact is immediately evident as we are able to design around the true cost of construction instead of a “word on the street” method.

Bond Design Group, LLC will remain in operation to serve other builders with design services, but will also be the design function of ICON Custom Homes, LLC.
